On Co-Living in Accra

written by Anita Asiedu October 4, 2017

I can’t tell you how many times on my way to and from work I’ve stared longingly through the windows at those fancy luxury unoccupied apartments in the center of Accra. I love my parents and I’ve enjoyed living with them for most of my adult life, but it sure would be nice to move out and more importantly move closer to work.

I’m sure I’m not alone. I know there are thousands of upwardly mobile professionals out there who want to live closer to work and play, but simply can’t afford to do so on their own.

I believe I have the solution and I’m working with a few others to make it a reality. Here I present the concept of co-living. We have almost secured a building in Asylum Down for this purpose; It’ll be like Workshed, Impact Hub Accra, or iSpace, but for living. There will be security, a back-up generator and access to a community. What it won’t be is glorified hostels. What it will be is the opportunity to live in Accra without paying Accra prices.

At its core, the co-living space will offer private apartment living with the benefits of an authentic community and communal amenity spaces.

Amenities

  • Flexible rent terms (no 2 year rent advances)
  • 24/7 Security
  • Access to laundry facilities
  • A back-up generator
  • Wi-fi
  • Weekly group activities (meals, outings, fitness classes). It’s up to you to participate in all or none

Interested? Please take this very brief (less than 3 minutes long), very anonymous survey. There’s an option to sign up for updates at the end of the survey.

We hope to launch within the next year. We welcome you to join our journey. Wish us luck!

Anita’s favorite things include, in no particular order, eating rice in all its wonderful forms, scrolling through photos of pugs, walking out of the airport into the sunlight of a new country, and daytime naps. By day, she's the Communications Manager of a technology startup based in Accra and by night, she is a superhero dedicated to freedom, justice, and the use of good grammar.
